Posted Roads
During the winter and spring, some of Gardiner’s roads weaken and they need to be protected. As temperatures warm and the ground thaws, soil under the pavement becomes saturated with water, making the pavement unstable. As a result, many roads cannot support heavy loads.
City of Gardiner posts roads to prevent damage from heavy vehicle traffic. The posting is temporary and is designed to protect a road while it is vulnerable. Trucks that exceed weight restriction are not allowed to travel along these posted roads until the posting period has ended (typically late spring).
Gardiner Ordinance Restricting Vehicle Weight on Posted Ways is in the City Code(PDF, 1MB) Section 25.3.23
The purpose of this ordinance is to prevent damage to city ways and bridges in the City of Gardiner which may be caused by vehicles of excessive weight, to lessen safety hazards and the risk of injury to the traveling public, to extend the life expectancy of city ways and bridges, and to reduce the public expense of their maintenance and repair. Posting dates with be updated annually.
