New and renewing vehicle registrations can be completed in person at Gardiner City Hall, 6 Church Street during normal operating hours.
Bring With You
Renewing a registration:
- Old registration (yellow slip)
- Current insurance card
- Odometer mileage reading
New Registration from Dealer Sale:
- Bill of sale
- Blue application for title form
- Window sticker if car is brand new
- Current insurance card covering this new vehicle
New Registration from Private Sale:
- Bill of sale
- Insurance card covering this new vehicle
- Title for 1995 and newer vehicles

Cash, check, credit or debit card payments accepted.
For credit/debit card payments a 2.5% service fee will be added
This fee is charged by our third-party payment processor, Maine Payport, and does not go to the City.
Additional Information
SR 22 Insurance filers, inform us of your status before we begin your registration.
Photocopy of seller's registration (for the vehicle you purchased), will save you time.
Transfers: You can only receive excise tax credit on a transfer if you have sold or transferred ownership of the vehicle to another party.
